Edward F. Reichel passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 after a brief hospitalization. Ed's life journey took him many places, Gloversville, NY; Amsterdam, NY; Gainesville, FL; Charlotte, NC; Binghamton, NY and ultimately to a place he loved the most, Advance, NC. Ed was born on July 14, 1930 in Gloversville, NY the eldest child of Edward and Lillian. He was raised along with his sisters Mary Lou and Deanna to appreciate hard work, his country, faith, family and friends. After graduation from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, NY in 1948, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Florida. On Christmas leave he married Barbara Snyder from Amsterdam, NY. He completed his service and with the assistance of the GI Bill, attended and graduated from the University of Florida. The first two of his children were born during this time period - Amy and Robert. A very successful career ensued in Business Management with numerous consumer product companies (Beechnut, Lifesavers, Planters Peanuts, and RJ Reynolds). His career took him to many locations - Charlotte, NC; Binghamton, NY; (where his son Tom joined the family), Atlanta, GA; Ireland; Manhattan, NY; Puerto Rico and Winston-Salem, NC. Retirement from RJ Reynolds did not slow him down. Along with Cathy Knibbs and their additions to the family of Kyle, Sue and Joni, Reichel's Bakery was born and thrived in the Advance area for several years. In his later years, Ed combined his volunteerism at two hospitals, dedicated work at Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, participation in activities at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension (that he shared with Nell) and enjoyed a busy and fulfilled life. Throughout his entire life, Ed had a great passion for sports especially baseball. He loved to play it, coach it, read about it, talk it, sing about it and watch it. He was a life time Boston Red Sox fan. And he has been known to say ""Nothing is better than going to a baseball game on a Sunday afternoon"". Ed is survived by his six children-Amy, Robert (Sun), Thomas (Donna), Joni, Sue and Kyle, eight grandchildren- Jake, Christopher, Matthew, Amber, Cameron, Donovan, Madison and Mason, two sisters - Mary Lou Wierzbowski and Deanna Smith and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed (aka Ted, Teddy, Edward, Daddy) was a good man, devoted to his family, friends and faith. Words cannot express how much he will be missed. Hopefully we are comforted by the many memories we share of a life well lived. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Advance with Father Dan Wall officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, 183 Fork-Bixby Rd. Advance, NC 27006.
