Mr. Edwin Thompson Cochrane, Jr., 81, passed away on January 5, 2017 at his home. Ed was born on December 10, 1935 to Mabel Massey and Edwin T. Cockerham in Winston-Salem. He was a man of many varied interests who was accomplished in a variety of careers including Aircraft Mechanic, Real Estate Broker and Master Carpenter. He was a true non-conformist, possessing a unique sense of humor, compassion toward animals, and an affinity for Ford automobiles. It has been said he was ""tough as a pine knot."" He will long be remembered as a fixture in Southside, Winston-Salem. Ed was preceded in death by a grandson, James Thompson Cochrane. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Barbara ""Bobbie"" G. Cochrane; daughter, Sherry Cochrane; son, Edwin T. Cochrane (Laura); grandchildren, Michael Paul Turco (Joanna), Ian Vadin Baskerville, Rachel Anne Cochrane, and Grace Lauren Cochrane; as well as six cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Woodland Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Brackett officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon - 2:00 PM Thursday at Hayworth-Miller silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, 1924 Lake Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
