Elaine Essick Atkins

         Mrs. Elaine Essick Atkins, 86, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She came into this world July 12, 1940 and went to Heaven on the same day, July 12, 2026. She was born in Davidson County, NC to Paul Edward Essick and Erma Vermillion Essick. Elaine graduated from Mineral Springs High School and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. She worked various bookkeeping and secretarial jobs. Elaine was a pastor’s wife for many years and made the house a home no matter where they were. She was always witty, had the best advice and never lost her smile. Elaine loved God, family and her friends deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jerry Howard Atkins and her brother, Reid Essick. Surviving are her two children, Melissa Bendure (Don) and Chris Atkins (Robin); five grandchildren, Leslie Kay Scroggins (Norman), Timothy Bendure (Tori), Matthew Bendure (Morgan), Meredith Atkins and Will Atkins; great grandchildren, Caden, Karson, Kenzlie, Cohen, Daniel Noah, Gia and Gracen and one brother, Michael Essick and a two sisters-in-law, Joanne Essick and Jean Harmon Sidden.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, Aug, 1, 2026 at Freedom Baptist Church in Mocksville, NC.
