Miss Eleanor A. Dinkins, 89, passed away on May 7, 2017 at Bermuda Village. Eleanor was born on December 13, 1927 to Cornelia Mundy Dinkins and Gray Dinkins in Yadkin County. She graduated from Yadkinville High School followed by Ideal Secretarial School. Eleanor's advanced administrative skills took her to Washington, D.C. There, she excelled as a clerk for a number of government officials and agencies including House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, Rep. Ralph J. Scott (D-NC), Rep. Joe Kilgore (D-TX), Rep. F. Ertel Carlyle (D-NC), VARO and VACO. She was active in NC Society; as well as the NC Democratic Club of Washington, D.C., where she served in a number of capacities including the first woman president. She worked with and organized many social functions including Governor's Ball and banquets, many of which were in conjunction with her job on Capitol Hill. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her 8 brothers and sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 with Rev. R. Craig Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Forbush Baptist Church Cemetery in Yadkinville.
