She was born April 20, 1930 in New Rochelle, NY to John and Anne Feeney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Warren J. She is survived by two daughters, Laurie Young Simons of Beverly, MA and Mary Beth Young of Lexington, NC; two grandsons, Ricky Beck of Jonesville, NC and William Carroll of Lexington, NC; and her youngest sister, Anne Feeney. Bette attended the New York School of Design, while still a resident of New York, and worked in that field for several years. She and Warren moved to Buffalo, NY in 1960 and lived there for 12 years before moving to Salisbury, NC in 1972, and eventually to Winston-Salem. Bette was retired from the Winston-Salem School System. She was an active member in several social groups, including the Red Hats and an investment club where she made many good friends. Bette enjoyed extensive travel to Europe with her family and was especially fond of Ireland, where her father was born, her mother was raised, and her large extended family reside. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, where Bette will join her husband, Warren, during a private service later this month. There will not be a service held in North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, her charities of choice are the The Salvation Army, St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, and Winston-Salem Rescue Mission.
