Ella Margurite Scarbo Mitchell

Mrs. Ella Margurite Scarbo Mitchell, 84, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, on May 18, 1941, to the late Margaret Scarbo.

Ella worked as a teacher for many years and was a devout Christian. She was a faithful member of Hanes Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where she was deeply involved in the Missions Group and taught Sunday school.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Mitchell, Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dale Mitchell, Jr., Paul G. Mitchell (Donna), and Mary Jo Kessel (Mike); grandchildren, Michael Kessel (Megan), Andrew Kessel (Brandi), David Kessel, Cierra Mitchell, and Jonathan Mitchell; adopted family, Geoff, Karen, and Malynda Zimbelman; Melissa McCune (Scott); Geoff Zimbelman, Jr.; and Matthew Zimbelman; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, February 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will greet friends following the service. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
