Ellen Long, 59, passed away Friday, September 08, 2017 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Danville, VA on September 20, 1957 to the late Arthur and Dorothy Dodd Jackson. Ellen graduated High School from Brenau Academy and later graduated from Averett College. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she served as the leader of the Circle One and was also a member of the Border Book Club. She enjoyed traveling and loved to entertain her family and friends. Preceding her in death was a sister, Martha Ann Jackson. Surviving is her husband of 33 years, Chuck Long; son, Will Long (Kaci); granddaughter, Finley Long; two sisters, Laura Jackson Owens (Paul) and Amy Jackson Blackmer (Dana); father-in-law, William Boger Long, Jr.; mother-in-law, Anne Hough (Barry); brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Daphne Rankin; nieces, Alison Ullman, Martha Ullman, Nina Sandler, Lee Blackmer, Jane Blackmer, and Ashlyn Anderson; nephews, Will Owens, Joseph Sandler, and Brandon Howell. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. R. Craig Ford officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the dining hall. A private burial will take place at Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
