Mr. Elmo Avery Byerly, Jr., age 57, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his home in Advance, NC after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Elmo was raised as an army brat who enjoyed many new experiences and travels as a child. He had an adventurous spirit and lived in many different places including Toul, France and Kure Beach, NC. One of his favorite past times was pulling for the UNC Tarheels in any sport, he was a lifelong fan. Elmo graduated from Parkland Senior High School, Class of 1977, and attended Forsyth Technical Institute. He was a self-employed finish carpenter and contractor by trade. Elmo is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 29 years, Kathy Byerly of the home and his sister, Vonnie Weiss and husband, Jack of Baltimore, MD. He also leaves many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He will be missed by his Cattle Dog, Ringo who gets his newspaper every morning. As a hobby, Elmo and Kathy enjoyed road trips and collecting Native American art. They always looked for the next flea market or auction to attend.
