Mrs. Elsie Marie Southern Cheek, 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home Sunday, September 10, 2017.
She was born in Forsyth County May 7, 1925 to the late J. Frank and Elsie Bennett Southern. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Cheek, her brother Ed Southern and wife Frances Southern, her brother Leck Southern and wife Christine, as well as her nephew, Larry Southern. Marie is survived by her nephew Bob Southern (Suzette), niece Joan Kelly (Curtis), nephew Mike Southern (Joy) and niece Pam Stafford (Ted).
A longtime member of Northwest Baptist Church, Marie spent most of her life as a caregiver for her mother; later for her brother, Leck, while in a nursing home, and, finally, for her loving husband Hobert. She was a cherished friend to many.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Dr. Ellen Strickland and Rev. Tony Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
