Elsie Griffin

Elsie Hill Griffin, 95, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at her home. Elsie was born on April 19, 1927, to David and Eva McGee Hill. She was born and raised in Germanton, NC, moved to Kernersville early in life where she met her soulmate, Harvey. Elsie and Harvey were devout Christians and were founding members of First Christian Church of Kernersville. She and Harvey just celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary on October 10, 2022. Her love for helping others was enhanced by her career as Cafeteria Manager at Kernersville Elementary with the Winston-Salem / Forsyth County School System. Elsie retired in 1985.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by a son, Gary Griffin; and a brother, Kelly Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Harvey Thomas Griffin; son, Tim Griffin (Elsie); five grandchildren, Todd Griffin, Amy Simmons (Danny), Julie Wilson (Scott), Tim Morris, and Eric Lockhart (Windy); six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law and wife of her late son, Gary, Elizabeth Griffin; and one sister, Eva Lane.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at First Christian Church in Kernersville with Dr. Pete Kunkle officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
