Elsie Haugen

Elsie Haugen, age 104, of Winston Salem, NC, passed away May 7, 2012. She was born on December 24, 1907 in Farila, Halsingland, Sweden, the daughter of the late, Hjalmer and Christina Osland Olson. Elsie was married to and preceded in death by Knute Haugen. Elsie is survived by her children, daughter Vivian Burress and husband Henry, daughter Bernice Blaisdell, son Dennis Haugen and wife Rita, and daughter Marilyn Henderson and husband Larry. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; five sisters; and a grandson. Elsie lived in Grand Forks, ND from 1941 until after the Grand Forks flood of 1997. She has lived in North Carolina for 15 years. Elsie was an avid reader, loved to travel and had a unique sense of humor. Memorial services will be held at 4:00pm, Thursday, May 10 at Parkway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Wilkers officiating. Burial services will be held at 1:30pm, Friday, May 11 at Fulbright Cemetery at Lake Junaluska. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm at the church prior to the service.
