Elvert Lakey

Kernersville - Elvert "Elb" William Lakey, 94, passed away December 17, 2017 at Summerstone Health and Rehab. Elb was born on December 20, 1922 in Yadkin County to John William and Minnie Mathis Lakey. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army and was so proud to be one of the veterans to be on "The Flight of Honor" in September of 2011. Elb retired from RJ Reynolds after 40 years of Service and was a charter member of Union Cross Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Elb was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Alberta Ragsdale Lakey; and one granddaughter, Michelle Lakey Liddle.
Surviving are his daughter, Judy Daniels (Marty); a son, Dale Lakey (Faye); three grandchildren, Kathy Horton (Jason), Bill Daniels, and Chris Lakey (Kristi); six great-grandchildren, Sarah Horton, Lauren Horton, Madyson Daniels, Kamdyn Lakey, Kaleb Daniels, and Brody Lakey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Union Cross Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Ayers and Dr. Kent Kern officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family extends a special thanks to Summerstone Nursing Home staff, and to his five care givers, Julia Montgomery, Tina Smith, Tonya Burchette, Megan Williams and Brenda Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any active fund at Union Cross Baptist Church, 4350 High Point Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284.
