Mr. Emmit Edward Clayton, Sr., 92, passed away July 5, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1924 in Forsyth County to the late John Coleman Clayton and Bertha Chandler Clayton. Emmit was a WWII Veteran, serving in the United States Army, Infantry Division. After leaving the service, he started Clayton Electric in 1959 and is still operating today. Emmit was a faithful member of Oak Summit United Methodist Church. Emmit loved square dancing, riding horses, and Nascar Racing. In addition, he loved camping, and was at one time president of the Camel Caravan Club. He was a fan of Bill O'reilly for getting the latest opinions on what was going on in the news. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bo and Jack Clayton; and one sister, Alma Clayton. Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Clayton; one son, Eddie (Anne) Clayton; one stepson, Jack Stewart; three daughters, Rene', Lisa and Lori Clayton; his special granddaughter, Darian Clayton which was his world. He had a special nickname for her, which was ""Punksie."" In addition, there are three grandchildren: Ashley (Lee) Tillery, Meghann (Jack) Veit, and Phillip (Meredith) Clayton; three great-grandchildren: Jackson and Holden Veit, and Aubrey Clayton; one brother, Don Clayton; two nieces; and five nephews. The family will receive friends 11:00 A.M. to 11:45 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. The Funeral service will follow, beginning at 12:00 PM with Rev. Wesley Hall officiating. Interment will follow at the Clayton Family Cemetery. (Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall).
