Ernest Edward Cook Sr.

Mr. Ernest Edward Cook Sr., 77, went home to be with the Lord January 13, 2016. He was born July 7, 1938 in Grady County, Oklahoma to the late Ernest Sylvester Cook and Myrtle Lorena Cook. Ed proudly served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the Green Berets. At the young age of 70, he earned a Bachelor degree and became an ordained minister. He was a volunteer chaplain with hospice and he was passionate in helping others. He served in the Griefshare program to assist people with needs in their life. He was also a very active member of Young at Heart at his church; a group that enjoyed traveling together and stopping at many, many Cracker Barrel's. He was a faithful member of Jefferson Church of Christ for 28 years, serving in many capacities throughout the church. Ed was dedicated to serving his Lord and Savior. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a great friend to many. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lorena May Cook; grandson, Jason Alexander Bowles; brother, Vernon Cook; sisters, Bernice Lang, and Mickey Buchannan. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hazel Cook; Daughters, Pamela Diane Neuffer (Jeff), Sheryl Ann Hulme (Ted), Adriene Yvonne Cunningham (Scott); son, Ernest ""Eddie"" Cook Jr. (Donna); 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Jefferson Church of Christ, 8200 Jefferson Church Rd., Rural Hall, N.C. with Jerry Simpkins, Minister, and Steve Cook, Minister officiating. Interment will follow at the church Cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends 6 P.M to 8 P.M. Friday, January 15 at the church.
