Ernest Tevis "Ted" Nance, Jr.

Ernest Tevis "Ted" Nance, Jr, 90, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

He was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on April 16, 1935, to the late Ernest Tevis "E.T." Nance, Sr. and Marie Edith Porter Nance.

Ted graduated from RJ Reynolds High School, working at Atlas Supply Company before Nance Stock Farm and then Nance Building Company.

Ted loved his family, his church, and his community, and he demonstrated that love every day. If he knew what you liked, he found it for you. If you needed something, he knew a guy to get it from. If you needed advice, a conversation, muscle power, or quiet companionship, he would provide. He rejoiced in the good times and stepped up in the bad to listen, help, and pray.

Ted cultivated relationships everywhere he went, and a stranger was not a stranger for long. He cared not at all about someone’s social or financial standing, concerned not about race, color, religion. Ted connected with hearts and minds, and his favorite way to commune was over a good meal most often at Pete’s.

Well known in the equine community, Ted had a talent for choosing good stock. He also had a tender heart for the neglected, sick, or suffering horses and worked diligently to heal them. He was a handshake sort of businessman, trusting when others might not, but he knew the value of things and enjoyed a good deal.

Ted will be greatly missed by his loving family, his beloved church, and his many cherished friends. The roads of Clemmons will not be the same without his battered old truck, Goldie, but the impact Ted made while traveling those roads will linger for a long time to come.

In addition to her parents, Ted was preceded in death by his son, Michael.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Cynthia; and their blended family, daughters, Lisa (Bob) Styles, and Deena (Jack) Hodges; sons, Ernest Tevis (Tad) Nance, III, and David (Susan) Cain; daughter-in-law, Vickie Nance; grandchildren, Stephanie (Eric) Prim, Max (Courtney) Pardon, Ernest Tevis Nance, IV (Brianna Austin), Ashley (Gileno) Fonseca, Candie Casey, and Rocky Cain; great-grandchildren, Avery Pardon, Gavin, Rylen, and Jaxyn Prim, Trey Casey, and Jackson Fonseca; and his cousin, Joyce Porter Hollifield.

Family and friends will gather at the home of Tad Nance in Clemmons.

The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church - Peacehaven Campus, on Saturday May 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A private family burial will follow the service at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC.
