Ernest Stephen "Steve" Teague

Ernest Stephen “Steve” Teague, a natural-born storyteller who never met a stranger, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the age of 75, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Steve was born into a farming family on October 9, 1950, in Siler City, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Lacy Teague and Phyllis Mae Foust Teague of Snow Camp, NC, where his lifelong love of farming, cattle, and the outdoors began.

A 1973 graduate of Elon College with a degree in History and Political Science, Steve carried his love of learning throughout his life, remaining a true student of the world around him.

A lifelong learner and voracious reader—often with a cowboy movie playing loudly in the background—Steve had an endlessly curious mind and a prankster’s spirit. He never lost that spark, carrying the curiosity and excitement of a young boy into everything he did. Whether blacksmithing at his forge, tending his fruit trees, working his cattle, or out exploring the land with his daughter and grandsons, he approached life with energy, adventure, and a constant desire to learn something new.

Professionally, he served as Senior Vice President of Purchasing at Salem Leasing with pride, where he was known not only for his strong work ethic, but for the many friendships he built along the way. Steve was also a proud Mason of the West Bend Lodge in Lewisville, NC.

A faithful servant and active member of Concord Methodist Church in Lewisville, NC, Steve’s steadfast love of the Lord showed in his daily walk, devotion to Bible study, and the power of prayer- he shared his faith in the way his lived his life – humility, generous heart, and love for all.

Lord, welcome him home—give him wide-open fields, good company, and one more story to tell. Amen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother, Ida Dee Smith and Lou Foust.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlene; his daughter, Lara; and his grandsons, Rhett and Wyatt, who meant the world to him. He is also survived by his brothers, Tom Teague (Penny) and Randy Teague (Diane), with whom he shared a lifetime of adventure; and was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two loyal dogs, still waiting for him by the door.
