Ernest "Erniebert" Lee Sapp passed away peacefully on December 2, 2018. He attended South Fork Elementary School and Southwest High School where he graduated in 1959. It was at a South Fork Elementary baseball game that he first met his wife and after dating in high school, they were married on August 25, 1962. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University in 1966 after studying Aeronautical and Industrial engineering and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring as Plant Engineer in 1995. Ernie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and son who always enjoyed being with his family and friends. He loved sports, and especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various endeavors. He loved old classic cars, 1950's and 1960's music and dancing with his wife. He was a lifelong member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and a member of its Advent Class. Here he also earned his Eagle Scout rank with Boy Scout troop 714. He was a Life member of the Winston-Salem Elks Lodge #449.
He is preceded in death by his father Floyd E. Sapp and mother, Nell Robertson Sapp and his wife of more than 53 years, Bobbie Largen Sapp. He is survived by his two children, Shannon Sapp and wife, Tricia and Kelly Sapp and husband, Bennett Pransky, and four beautiful grandchildren, Easton, Thomas, Audrey, Madelyn, and one grandson who preceded him in death, Landon. Ernie leaves behind a loving extended family and many friends he considered family. A memorial service will be held at New Philadelphia Moravian Church on Friday, December 7. 2018 at 3:00 PM. A reception to follow. Memorial gifts in his memory may be sent to the church he loved, New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
