Mrs. Ethel Carter Phelps Hicks of Winston-Salem, a loving mom, born July 24, 1936 went to her Heavenly Home on February 20, 2014. Revelation 21:4: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Ethel retired from Burlington Industries. She was a faithful member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for over 20 years. She is loved and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Carter; her former husband, Sam T. Phelps; husband, Walser L. Hicks; three brothers, Bill, Duke, and Paul Carter; one sister, Frances Cook; and daughter, Teresa Shore. She is survived by one sister, Peggy Makas of Florida; two sons, Eddie and Randy Phelps; two daughters, Nancy and Wendy Phelps; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Brother Frank Shumate and Brother Bobby Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church.
