Mr. Eugene “Gene” Branson Moore, Sr., 77, a resident of Midway, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Gene was born in Florence, South Carolina, on August 29, 1948, to the late Tom Paton Moore, Sr., and Ruth Fulp Moore. He worked for many years in the audio and video industry until his retirement. On February 12, 1972, Gene married the love of his life, Mary Ann Everhart. Together, they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.
In younger years, Gene was happiest with a rod in his hand or a 7-iron, the day unspooling beside a lake or a fairway, and on Sundays, a race humming on the TV so he could root for his favorite NASCAR drivers. He never outgrew that; he kept following the sport deep into his later years, tracking new names with the same old enthusiasm. He cheered, too, for Wake Forest and the Boston Red Sox—teams that ask for patience and reward loyalty. In retirement, he found a quieter obsession, becoming an avid coin collector, spending unhurried hours gently inspecting mint marks and history. At home, he cooked breakfast and dinner most days, filling the house with the reliable comforts of bacon, biscuits and something good in a skillet. He adored his family, especially his five grandchildren, and he measured time by holidays and birthdays when everyone was under the same roof. He loved the beach and never missed a family vacation. He was a man who packed the cooler, manned the stove and made ordinary days feel like tradition.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Moore and Tex Moore.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Ann Moore of the home; his sons, Eugene “Branson” Moore, Jr. (Visha Burkart) and Patrick Ryan Moore (Angie); his daughter, Lauren Moore Viscount (Alec); and his beloved grandchildren, Dylan Moore, Augusta “Gus” Burkart Moore, Finnegan “Finn” Burkart Moore, Louie Viscount, and Cordelia Viscount. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Weaver and Gail Porter; and his brothers, Tom Moore (Diane) and Ricky Moore (Lynne).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fraternity Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
