Evelyn Burrow Gordon, 86, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House. She was born December 29, 1938, in Stokes County, NC to Spencer Burrow and Medea Spainhour. Her father, Spencer Burrow, died in 1945 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Her step-father was William “Bill” W. Cardwell.
Mrs. Gordon was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church. She retired as a coordinator for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. An avid bowler, she loved to travel and compete in tournaments around the country. She also had a passion for sewing, ceramics and other crafts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Lee Gordon; her brother, Stephen Spencer Burrow; and a great-granddaughter, Emmerson Jane Gordon. Surviving are her two sons, Grant Gordon and wife, Jill of Pinnacle; and Gregory Gordon and wife, Teresa of Pfafftown; a daughter, Leigh Spillman and husband, James of Greer, SC. Additionally, her grandchildren, Ryan Gordon (Allison), Brandon Gordon (Marion), Trevor Gordon (Ashlyn), Dustin Gordon (Katelyn), Candace Gordon, Ashleigh Spillman, Christopher Spillman and Garrett Spillman; as well as her great-grandchildren Elliott, Adaline, Emma Kate, August and Sawyer; and her sisters Peggy Burrow Johnson and Carol Cardwell Doss.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 31 in the sanctuary of Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends starting at 11:00 am, and the celebration service will start at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at Forsyth Memorial Park following the service.
