Evelyn Montgomery Smith West

WINSTON SALEM -- Evelyn Montgomery Smith West, 93, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Oak Forest Health and Rehab. Evelyn was born on September 25, 1920 in Augusta County, VA to the late James and Eva Thacker Smith. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and later attended Kernersville Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband John D. West; daughter, Sandra Chandler; and son, James Samuel. Surviving are two sons, David West and Frank Chandler; three sisters, Cecelia Jarrett, Diane McCall and Shirley Shriver; two brothers, Roland and Robert Berry. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
