Flay McGuire

Alvin “Flay” McGuire, 92, went peacefully to the lord on Saturday, February 10, 2024, surrounded by those he loved. He was born in Wilkes County on July 12, 1931, to the late John and Alma Eller McGuire. Flay was a devoted member of Welcome Door Baptist Church for over 50 years. He loved the Lord and loved his church dearly. Flay was also devoted to his loving wife, Ruth, whom he has been married for 68 years. He enjoyed watching car races and spending time with his family, he was a great father. Flay will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Flay is preceded in death by his son, Ronald Keith McGuire; a grandchild, Terry Lee Neal Jr.; three brothers, Bobby McGuire, J.D. McGuire and Joseph McGuire as well as three sisters, Bessie Bowles, Mary Stone, and Nell Carson.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Ruth Overby McGuire; two daughters, Alma Merita Midkiff (Eric) and Carolene Willard; a son, Donald Wayne McGuire; a sister, Nancy Bodenhamer; five grandchildren Kevin Neal (Lori), Keith McGuire, TJ Willard, Chris Willard (Megan), and Michael Willard; four great-grandchildren, Harley McGuire, Emma McGuire, Shayden Willard, and Riley Neal; as well as friends, Faye Larrimore and Teresa Hampton.

The family of Flay would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Walnut Cove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their assistance in the care of Flay during his time of need. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Welcome Door Baptist Church, with Pastor Brian Taylor officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory- Walkertown.
