Florene Sims Nelson

Kernersville - Mrs. Florene Sims Nelson, 87, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Silas Creek Manor. Florene was born on October 2, 1928 in Rockingham County to Pinkney and Mary Sims. She was a born again Christian who loved the Lord and a faithful member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday School.
In addition to her parents, Florene was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Carter Nelson of 42 years; and a sister, Betty Lou Akers.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Michael Nelson (Linda) and Stephen Anthony Nelson; two grandchildren, Johnathan Michael Nelson (Jennifer) and David Alan Nelson (Diana); four great grandchildren, Lynette, Madelyn, Annabeth, and Roslyn Nelson; a brother-in-law, Charles Wise Akers; and nephew, Charles Lee Akers.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
