Mrs. Flossie Curry Stone, 98, went to Heaven on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Forsyth Memorial Medical Center. She was born August 14, 1920 in Wilkes County to the late Samuel Thomas and Cora Blevens Curry. Flossie was a caregiver all of her life. She took care of many family members through the years. She “raised” many children that she kept in their home for years (more than 10) and they all called her Grannie Stone. She was always sending cards to people for all kinds of occasions. She loved to cross stitch and cross stitched a pair of pillowcases for all the newlyweds at the church for many years.
She was known for her cooking, especially homemade chocolate pies and chicken dumplings. She was the oldest living member of the church and near her birthday last year they honored her by having a chocolate pie contest at Homecoming.
She loved flowers and wanted them while she was on Earth because she would have them in Heaven. She had a green thumb and could plant anything and it was beautiful. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She will be truly missed by family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gilmer Vernon Stone, a daughter-in-law, Carol Stone, a grandson, Bryan Stone and nine siblings.
Surviving are; a daughter, Wanda Stone (Bill) Kearney, two sons, Barry R (Mary)Stone and Michael Stone. Three grandchildren; James (Sonja) Stone, Vernon (Tracy) Stone and Mark (Angela)Kearney Seven great grandchildren; Brittney, Caitlin, Tanner, Meryssa, Harrison, Matthew and Liam. Three great-great grandchildren; Colton, Emma and Layla. One brother, Larry Curry (Jean) along with other extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Wallburg Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Wolfe and Reverend Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wallburg Baptist Church, 5341 Wallburg Road, Winston Salem, NC 27107
A very special thanks to the wonderful people in her life at Arbor Ridge in Kernersville, especially Kathy and Linda. She loved her “family” there.
