Fotini Demetrios Bobocharis

Fotini Demetrios Bobocharis, 95, passed away peacefully, July 25, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after many visits with family and friends. Fotini was born on March 27, 1929, in Karpenisi, Evrytania, Greece to the late Demetrios Bobocharis and Artemisia Chamis. She grew up in Karpenisi, Greece where her parents owned the town’s successful bakery. Fotini survived two wars while living in Greece, but she persevered and came to the United States with her sister Marika in 1955 to begin a new life filled with opportunities that the U.S. could give them. Fotini was a proud Greek woman, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. The entire Greek community was her family.

Fotini was a lifelong devoted member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was an active member of the Philoptochos Society, Evrytanian Association, and Daughters of Evrytania, all philanthropic organizations that helped people in need. She worked as a seamstress for 40 years at Robert’s Uniforms/Fechheimer Bros. For many years, she made some of the best Greek pastries and shared them with everyone. She devoted her life to helping her family and those in need.

Fotini enjoyed knitting and made thousands of blankets, scarves, hats, and pouches for wheelchairs, often sending them to the hospital in Karpenisi and giving them to people in need in the U.S.

Fotini is predeceased by her parents, brother John Bobocharis; sisters Marika Canavos, Violetta Bobocharis, and Loula Papademetriou; sisters-in-law Tacia Bobocharis and Voula Bobocharis; brother-in law, Rev. Fr. Dennis Canavos, and beloved nephew, George Dennis Canavos.

Fotini is survived by her brother Anargyros (Tacia), brother-law Costa (Loula), and many nieces and nephews in Greece. She is also survived by her niece Alexandra Canavos (Richard Hillmann) in the U.S. and great nephews, Dimitri, and Dennis Kontos, who lovingly called her Yiayia Nini.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the healthcare professionals at Novant Forsyth Memorial Hospital, The Oaks and EVERYONE at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their extraordinary empathy and love given so effortlessly. A special thank you to Richard Hillmann for always affectionately helping, and most times traveling long distances without hesitation. Thank you also to Tatjana Alchalinti for being a loving caregiver and loyal friend. Zoe Michael for delivering food weekly and Helen Bambalis for taking Fotini to many doctor’s appointments.
