Mrs. Frances Louise Shields Gavlik, 99, passed away November 18, 2016 at her daughter's home in Lexington, NC. She was born June 27, 1917 in Canton, Illinois to the late Frank Louis Shields and Venda Marie Benson Shields. Ms. Gavlik was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, doing needlepoint for her family and was an avid baseball fan. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Roger and her sisters, Rose and Jessie. Ms. Gavlik is survived by her five children, Mary Gavlik, Gloria Jean Kiger (Gary), Linda Merritt (Stanley), Debbie Cox (Tim) and John Gavlik; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Jackie Emel and special friends, Carolina Simmons and Isabelle Padgett. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Ardmore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bev Coppley, and Matthew Cox (Frances Gavlik's grandson) officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care for their dedication and compassion to Ms. Gavlik.
