Frances Martha Crater 'Mammie' Gilbert

Mrs. Frances Martha Crater ""Mammie"" Gilbert, 98, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Forsyth County on July 18, 1915 the daughter of the late George Earl Crater and Fannie Mae Cooper Crater. Mammie was a lifelong member of Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem but, in recent years had been attending Stokesdale Baptist Church with her daughter. She was the owner and operator of G.E. Crater Wholesale in Winston-Salem for 45 years. Mammie loved her flower gardens and her family dearly. Everyone was special to Mammie and she will be missed dearly by all who knew her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Eddie Gilbert and two brothers, Claud Crater and Cooper Crater. Mammie is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ashley and husband Pinky of Stokesdale, three granddaughters, Donna Groce and husband Joel of Winston-Salem, Teresa Marion and husband Joel of Shoals and Mary Beth Sizemore and husband Neal of King, four great-grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Sydney and John ""Johnboy"", two great-great-grandchildren, Clayton and Mallory. Mammie is also survived by a sister, Earleen Crawford and husband Alvin of Winston-Salem and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Carl Brown, Rev. Bill Hicks and Mr. Jimmy Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 this evening, Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
