Frances Harriett Ratledge Ward

Mrs. Frances Harriett Ratledge Ward died November 20, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center after a two year illness of COPD. She was born September 14, 1935, the third of four daughters to Walter Glenn and Mozelle McCulloh Ratledge. She and David Harris Ward, her husband of 59 years, lived their entire lives in Advance where they raised their two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Ward Beidler of Raleigh and Kimberly Ward Horner of Wilton, CT. In addition to her husband and daughters, she is survived by her grandsons, Harrison and Christian Horner and her son-in-law Erick Beidler. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hege and husband Bob. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwen and George Frye of Mocksville, Ann and Harvey Hamrick of Chapel Hill and her sister-in-law, Margaret Brewer-Bayer of Clemmons, as well as, extended family and friends. Frances had her own career with Davie Oil Company and as a library assistant at Shady Grove Elementary School. She was a very supportive wife, who for years enjoyed playing golf with her husband. She was a very dedicated mother who attended all of her daughters' dancing and athletic events as they were growing up. In addition, Frances was a very caring friend, who engaged wholeheartedly in every interest she had throughout her life. In recent years she continued to strengthen her faith through Bible Study and church events at Advance United Methodist Church, which she attended all her life. Her often witty observations, clear cut opinions on many topics and her general feistiness, defined her personality and will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Advance United Methodist Church with Rev. Cheryl Skinner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advance UMC, PO Box 2021, Advance, NC 27006. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com (Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel)
