F. Patrick “Pat” Russell passed away on September 21, 2026, on the beach at Emerald Isle while on vacation with family and friends.
He was born in Tampa, Florida on December 1, 1942. He later moved to Winston-Salem, where he attended Winston-Salem schools, and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1961. He then attended Wake Forest University.
He married Bonnie Deal in 1964, and they shared 62 years of marriage and had 3 children.
His career was in the furniture industry as a manufactory representative with a showroom in High Point, NC, as well as traveling around the country to work with his customers. He remained in contact with many of them the rest of his life. He later joined Furnitureland South, retiring in 2004. In retirement, he enjoyed helping out at Oak Valley Golf Course and Bermuda Village Retirement Community, where he continued to make more lasting friendships.
He was an active member of Trinity Moravian Church, leading the Senior High Youth Group with Bonnie in the early years, then later serving on the Boards and singing in the choir. He also attended New Philadelphia Moravian Church while he was raising his children. He was active in Sunday School and played on the softball teams at both churches for many years. He traveled on several mission trips to Honduras building medical clinics, and later to Southern Mississippi for Hurricane Katrina Relief. He was an active member of BPO Elks Lodge for over 50 years, focusing on their veterans and youth programs. He served in various local, state and national positions, including President of the NC Elks Association.
His greatest joy was his family-his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many extended family members. In his early years, he was known for bringing family & friends together-at the family beach house for 30 years, day trips to Lake Norman for skiing and boating adventures, tailgating at Wake Forest football games, as well as trips to see the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves. He loved to fish and play golf and was always happy when attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was so proud of their accomplishments.
He loved people and never met a stranger, anywhere. He had many lifelong friends, as well as friends he met later in life. He will be remembered as a kind & thoughtful person with a quick wit and caring & compassionate to others. He was always fun to be around.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Deal Russell; daughter, Angie Heath (John); son, Patrick Russell (Michelle); granddaughters, Brooke Padgett (Sean Conway) and Meredith Hailey; grandson, Ryan Heath; great grandsons, Jack and Bobby Conway; and brother, Kieran Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeda Lee Russell Brown and Frank W. Russell; daughter, Robin; twin brother, Mike Russell and brother, Danny Russell.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Trinity Moravian Church with Rev. John Jackman officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Moravian Church, 220 E. Sprague St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or the Susan G. Komen Organization, 13770 Noel Rd., Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380.
