Frank Cadman Styers passed away peacefully January 15, 2024 in Morehead City where he lived since retirement. He was born April 11, 1930, in Greensboro to the late Thomas Van Buren and Ida Lillian Falls Styers. He was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1948, and from Pfeiffer Junior College in 1950. He graduated from University of North Carolina in 1956 and Presidio of Monterey California Chinese Mandarin Linguist School in 1954. During the Korean War, he enlisted in the Army Security Agency and served with the British First Commonwealth Division in Korea for a year and then worked at the Army Security Agency Headquarters in Toyko for a year. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his military service. He was employed by the City of Winston-Salem in 1956 and served as the superintendent of water and wastewater plant facilities until retirement in 1973. He was Chairman of the State Section of the American Waterworks Association and the state Water Environment Federation as well as a National Director of the Water Environment Federation for five years. During this time, he was awarded three prestigious awards in recognition of his sound engineering skill, diplomatic talent and extraordinary service to the water and wastewater industry He received the Hatfield Award in 1968, the Bedel Award in 1983, and the Fuller Award in 1993. He retired from the City of Winston-Salem in 1975 to start his own company (Cadman Construction Company) engaged in building and operating water and wastewater facilities. He is an associate member of Messiah Moravian Church. He was a member of American Water Works and Water Pollution Control Association. He was Past Commander of Winston-Salem Power Squadron and a member of Fort Macon Power Squadron. He married the late Polly Stoltz from Rural Hall in 1959 who he missed dearly since her passing in August 2023. They moved to Morehead City and owned and operated Peltier Creek Country Club and Yacht Basin. They have two children and two grandchildren surviving them. Laura Styers Leegins of Morehead City, and Frank Cadman Styers, Jr. and wife Tammy, of Wilmington, NC, and grandsons, Frank Cadman Styers III and Colby Alexander Styers. A funeral service will be held in honor of Frank at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Rural Hall Moravian Church. The family will receive visitors from 1:00pm to 2:00pm before the service. The burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park, 6850 University Parkway, Rural Hall, NC. Officiating the service will be Rev. Andrew Craver. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, 202 CenterPort, Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409.
