In loving memory of Frank Raymond Thomas, who peacefully passed away on January 13th, 2024, at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehab in Lewisville, North Carolina. Born on November 4, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Anthony B. Thomas and Mamie Jane Szalewicz Thomas, Frank, a devoted husband to Jane Julia Lasky Thomas, is also survived by his loving children: Amy Challgren and her sons Ethan, Adam, and Turner of Raleigh, NC; Julie Schriver and son-in-law Michael Schriver of Louisburg, NC; David Thomas and daughter-in-law Christina Thomas and their daughters, Bella and Ava of Winston-Salem, NC.
Frank, a proud graduate of Youngstown State University, earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree. During his time at YSU, he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, served as the Director of the Youngstown University Radio Show, participated in the Deans Council, Student Council, and was a member of the Thespian Society. His career included working as an engineer at General Motors in both Hudson, Ohio, and Warren, Ohio, and later in purchasing management for RJR Tobacco in Winston-Salem. His inventive spirit led him to a patent of the Seamless Winged Terminal during his time at General Motors’ Packard Electric division. Later in his career, Mr. Thomas served as the President of the National Association of Purchasing Managers Carolinas/ Virginia.
Frank cherished his family, cars, boats, and his beloved dog Sadie. He found joy in playing cards, cooking and grilling, reading, building model railroads, and spending Sundays on the porch with Jane, sipping coffee. Known for his bear hugs, contagious laughter, generosity, and profound love for his family, Frank Raymond Thomas will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 19th, at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Road, Clemmons, North Carolina, with Father Kang officiating. Internment will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Epilepsy Alliance of North Carolina at Piedmont One Suite 5541 A, 1920 W. First Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
