Fred Ernest Golden, Jr, 95, a resident of Clemmons, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Bermuda Village. Fred was born to the late Fred Golden Sr. and Rosalie Golden on June 17, 1929 in Jackson, Michigan. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea where he learned to love sailing the open seas. He was an alumnus of Michigan State University, where he earned his Master's Degree. After graduation, he enjoyed a rewarding career teaching high school students in the building trades. Fred had several achievements in his life. He guided his high school students in the construction of a home in the suburbs of Detroit and retired at age 55. Following his career, Fred lived on a sailboat in the Caribbean with his wife "Betty" for seven years. Fred enjoyed being outdoors, including visiting numerous national parks, hiking, and camping with his family. Fred was an accomplished woodworker and artist who created many pieces of "Folk Art." He also enjoyed golfing, going to the local YMCA, and attending and performing for the Community Theater. He spent four months aboard the cruise ship Queen Elizabeth II where he proposed to his second wife, Jan.
Fred was a member of Sun City Center Methodist Church in Sun City Center, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Golden; two brothers, Lloyd and Larry Golden; and a grandson, Christopher Uber.
Left to cherish Fred's memory is his wife of 18 years, Jeanette Golden of the home; children, Cheryl Moberly (David) of Michigan, Sandra Yard (Harry) of Michigan; and Steve Golden (Nancy) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Kimberly Uber of Michigan, Andrew Golden of Winston-Salem, and Mallory Harris (Clint) of Lexington; great grandchildren, Loren Uber and Delaney Harris; step-children, Mark Brynell of Arkansas, Karen Washburn (Scott) of Pfafftown, and David Brynell (Michele) of California; step-grandchildren, Christopher Byrnell, Ryan Brynell, Callie Kaszycki (David), Danner Washburn (Kate), Shey Washburn, Tara Sinicropi (Ross), Zachery Byrnell (Topher), and Joshua Brynell (Erin); step-greatgrandchildren, Myla Kaszycki, Juniper Sinicropi, Maeve Sinicropi, and Chandler Byrnell.
A memorial service to honor Fred's life will be held by the family at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
