Mr. Fred H. Hahn, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Lane Tech High All Boys High School. Unable to fulfill his dream of flying, as he was too tall for the cockpit of a plane, so he enlisted in the Navy in April of 1943. Because of his schooling, he was assigned as an engineer PT Boat Sq. #9 and Boats 160 and 156. They fought in the South Pacific during the war. He worked as a machinist for General Electric in Cincinnati, OH for 35 years, where he was married to Roberta Louise Bovard Hahn. After her passing, he moved to Winston-Salem where he met Beatrice Harford in the Mt. Tabor Methodist Church Choir. At age 80, he married her. Fred was preceded in death by both wives and one daughter, Linda Denise Hahn. He leaves behind his loving children: Douglas Allen Hahn (Ken), Judith Ann Kline (Jim), and Cynthia Rae Neininger; grandchildren: David and Mark Hahn, Jeffrey Kline, Hayley and Tyler Neininger; and three great-grandsons: Owen, Connor, and Miles. Fred will be greatly missed, but stories of his adventures, misadventures, and "FHS" tales will be passed on for generations. He was not only surrounded by love near the end, but had hot coffee, cold "mochos," and a chocolate each day. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist church, with Dr. Mark Key officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
