Kernersville - Fred Lamont Martin, 79, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026, peacefully at his home. He was born in Patrick County, Virginia on November 8, 1946, to the late Fred Melvin Martin and Vilma Harvey Martin Barbour.

Fred was such a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved to serve others and he would call himself a doctor of laughter because of his life’s verse, Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit Dreith the bones.” He didn’t like to see people sad and always wanted to make them smile. He loved his family very well and loved living with them in these last 5 years. He treasured every moment that he got to spend with them. Fred was also a faithful member of Kerwin Baptist church where he was very involved in his Sunday School Cass and attended every service. Fred retired from Food Lion after many years of faithful service where he was best known for his jokes and was most happy when he was making people smile.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death to by his wife of 41 years, Betty Davis Martin and two brothers, Stanley Martin and Johnny Barbor.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Joy Martin Linde (Cameron) of Kernersville and Amy Martin Yeatts of Danville, VA; 9 Grandchildren, (Joy) Hunter, Abby, Riley, Lexi and Carter, (Amy) Kaleb (Amber), Maranda, Kensley and Mallary as well as 2 great-grandchildren; Summer and Jackson; one brother Farley Martin (Dana) of Danville, VA; one stepsister, Cheryl Barbour Walker (Mark); his nieces and nephews, David Martin (Lisa), Ashley Martin Kerr (Troy), Tina Brower (Jesse), Glen Giles (Teresa), Eddy Wells (Cammie), David Wells (Tammy), and Terry Wells (Jane) along with his great-nieces and nephews who he loved and they all loved their “uncle Fred.”
