Fred Moretz

Rev. Fred Boyd Moretz, 73, completed his journey on this earth on August 20, 2018. He was born on December 1, 1944 in Boone, NC, the beloved son of Eston D. and Faye E. Moretz. Fred graduated from Hiwassee College, Tennessee Wesleyan University and Emory University Candler School of Theology. In 1971, he was ordained an Elder by the United Methodist Conference. He pastored several churches including spending seven years in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. Upon returning, he completed studies in Clinical Chaplaincy and Psychotherapy and was employed as Chaplain for Winston-Salem / Forsyth County Hospice, from which he recently retired. Among his many interests were woodworking, carpentry, and researching the Moretz Family history. His detailed research traced the John Moretz, Sr. family back to the 1600's. A recent joy of Fred's came when his two nieces visited the church where his 5th great-grandfather worshipped and the castle where he worked.

Fred is survived by his devoted family: his wife, Susan Reeves Moretz; a son, Antonio Moretz; two daughters Monica Moretz, and Laura Moretz Wooten (husband, Wesley); three grandchildren, Brianna, Hailey and Gavin Wooten; five sisters, Martine Houser, Janet Goodman, Louise Lamb, Barbara Blevins and Brenda M. Boyles.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Pastors David Berrier and Eric Tang officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
