Fred James Walser, Jr., 82, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, following an extended illness. He was born on October 6, 1943, to the late Fred James Walser, Sr. and Elizabeth Fishel Walser.
Fred was a devoted member of Trinity Moravian Church, where he faithfully served as an usher, played in the Moravian band, and contributed as a member of the board of trustees. He retired from Duke Power in 2003 after 39 years of dedicated service.
One of Fred’s greatest passions was coaching baseball. Over the years, he mentored many young players, including his own sons and grandsons. Even after his coaching days ended, he continued to find joy in attending his grandchildren’s games until his health no longer permitted. He also cherished time spent reconnecting with his Gray High School classmates over shared meals and memories.
Above all, Fred treasured his family, who were his greatest blessing—and he was truly a blessing to them in return.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Walser Shackleford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Linda Howard Walser; his sons, Jim (Sara) and Rusty (Courtney); his grandchildren, Sumer Williams (Larkin), Brooks Walser (Elizabeth), Kelton Walser (Megan), and Ty Walser (Madelyn); and his great-grandchildren, Addie and Ellie Williams, and Maddox Walser. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at God’s Acre Moravian Graveyard. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Trellis for their compassionate care during Fred’s final weeks.
