Gail Sheek Johnston

Mrs. Gail (Diann) Sheek Johnston, 88, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Forsyth County on August 13, 1936, to the late Everett Gray and Thelma Simmons Sheek who lived in Advance, NC. She graduated from Mocksville High School. She worked at Mother and Daughter and Western Electric before adopting a child and becoming a homemaker for 20+ years. She then worked at Belk’s and Dillard’s for many years, most notably helping brides to be pick out their China settings as they started their new life and family. Mrs. Johnston was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Sheek. Surviving is her husband of 66 years, Dale Johnston; son, Alan Dale Johnston (Carol); two granddaughters, Caitlin Hawkins and Madison Johnston; one great granddaughter, Aubrey Hawkins; two brothers, Richard Sheek (Ann) and Doug Sheek (Debbie); three sisters, Kathy Sparks, Debbie Leonard (Vance), Edith Ammons and many nieces and nephews from both Sheek and Johnston families. Gail was a devoted wife and mother, who ALWAYS put the needs of others before herself. She rarely had a cross word with anyone and displayed unconditional love and compassion for those around her. She adopted a child with her husband and provided a life that the child could have only dreamed about, a greater gift could not have been bestowed by her. She was said to be a friend to those who had no friends and was cared for greatly by those who were fortunate to have met her. Her life was in service to the Lord, her family, friends and the community, and for that we are most grateful. A graveside service will be held at Lewisville Baptist Church Cemetery on December 15th, 2024, for immediate family and local friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewisville Baptist Church in her name.
