CLEMMONS, NC-Mr. Garl ""G-Man"" Rockney Wiles, Sr., 78, of Clemmons, NC, served his final ace on Monday, February 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family after a brave and grueling battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born on July 24, 1935 in Forsyth County to German Cleatus Wiles and Sylvia Reed Wiles. Garl was a tremendous athlete who never met a sport he couldn't play. His favorites by far, however, were racquetball and golf. He is a member of the North Carolina Racquetball Hall of Fame. He was a WTOB Radio sports announcer. Garl was a dedicated member of the Winston-Salem YMCA. He was a member of the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association. He was a faithful member of Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach, NC. He also attended Fairview Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. He served his country as a member of the United States Army. Garl was a larger than life figure who commanded attention whenever he walked into a room. He was quick with a joke or an amusing anecdote and loved to laugh. Preceding Mr. Wiles in death along with his parents were a step-daughter, Maria Wilder and a half brother, James Wiles. Mr. Wiles is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Caroline ""Carrie"" Floyd-Wiles; children, Garl Wiles, Jr., (Teresa), Philip Wiles, Karen Wiles McAnally (Dean), Michael Wiles, Mark Wiles, Christopher Wiles (Melanie) and Cynthia Gentry (Brian); step-son, George Wilder (Barb); 19 grandchildren; children's mother, Maria Palmira ""Polly"" Wiles; and a special niece and nephew, Jeff and Debbie.
