Gary Edward Bennett

Gary Edward Bennett, 70, of Summerfield, NC passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital. He was born to the late Harold Edward Bennett and Peggy Kiger Bennett on October 19, 1954, in Forsyth County.

Gary graduated from Northwest Guilford High School in the 1973 class. He later became a significant supporter and sponsor of the school. He cofounded Bennett Backhoe, Inc with his beloved brother and best friend, Brian. Gary enjoyed spending his free time on his boat at Smith Mountain Lake and living the “Lake Life”. He was a huge outdoorsman who loved to hunt.

In addition to his beloved parents, Harold and Peggy; Gary is preceded in death by his special cat, Blue.

He is survived by his loving brother, Brian Bennett; cousins who are like a mom and sisters, Pauline Bull, Mitzi McDaniel (Brad), Darlene Joyner (Bobby), Marsha Gossage (Ron), Shell Thomas, and Daphne Sawyer (Chris); godchildren, Ashley Moore (Rodney), and Whitney Keene (Matt); special cat, Bootsie; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Randy Winn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the funeral home. The burial will follow the service at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church in Colfax.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to The Summerfield Fire Department, The Guilford County Animal Shelter, or Northwest Guilford High School in honor of Gary.
