Gary Mendenhall

Mr. Gary Donald Mendenhall, 69, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center.  Gary was born to the late Cleo “Pete” Mendenhall and Bernice Sells Mendenhall in Davidson County on April 20, 1953.

Gary was employed with Forsyth County General Services for 31 years and Sam’s Club for 20 years.  Gary was a scout leader and played a major role in his two sons earning Eagle Scout Badges.  He also enjoyed coaching his son’s sports teams and mentoring other kids.

Gary was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  He loved his family unconditionally.  He was kind, gracious, faithful, and steady, with a cheerful spirit, ready smile, and sense of humor.  He was a hard worker, loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel, and watching sports.  He was a faithful member of New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of almost 49 years, Brenda Loggins Mendenhall; two sons, Timothy A. Mendenhall and Steven Wesley Mendenhall; and his precious grandson, Weston Paul Mendenhall.  Gary is also survived by his sister, Nancy M. Loggins (Roger) and niece, Amanda Woodle.

A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Toth officiating.  A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Gary’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the loving and capable ICU staff at Forsyth Medical Center for the care they provided Gary and the compassion shown to his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 6408 Friendship-Ledford Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or Davidson County Senior Services Meals on Wheels Program, 555-B West Center St., Lexington, NC 27292.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Mendenhall.
