Gayenell Thomas Harper

Gayenell Thomas Harper, 81, of Kernersville, NC entered into her heavenly home on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born to the late James Thomas and Cora Stillie Thomas on March 28, 1945, in Forsyth County.

Gayenell attended Walkertown Elementary and Junior High and graduated from East Forsyth High School class of 1963. She went on to study at Wingate College. Gayenell spent her free time crafting and gardening. She was talented at sewing, painting, making blankets and quilts. Gayenell never met a stranger. She cherished not only being a Christian but her ability to spread God’s word. Gayenell enjoyed going to many different sporting events over the years in support of her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always put her family first and loved any time she was able to share with them.

In addition to her parents, Gayenell is preceded in death by her beloved son, Andy Harper; and brothers, Wayne Thomas, and Lowell Thomas.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Miller “Bud” Harper; daughter, Lori Compton (Scott); son, Will Harper; grandchildren, Harper Compton (Sydney), Weston Compton (Ashley), Aidan Harper, and Jackson Harper; great-grandchildren, Madison Compton, Hudson Compton, Tinley Compton, and Emily Compton; brother, Danny Thomas (Sheree); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Triad Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will follow the service at Love’s United Methodist Church.
