Gene Pitts

COLFAX - Gene Bruce Pitts, 82, entered into eternal rest on April 30, 2018. Gene was born on October 25, 1935 in Guilford County to Jonah C. and Fairmae Gray Pitts. He was a Veteran of the US Army National Guard of NC from 1954 - 1960. He also worked many years as a truck driver and enjoyed fishing at the coast. Gene was honored to be a lifelong member of Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Jones and Louise Byrd; and one brother, Harvey Pitts.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Oma Lou Pruitt Pitts; two sons, Tim Pitts (Lisa) and Gerald Pitts (Robin); three grandchildren, Myles Pitts, Jennifer Placke and Joshua Pegram; a sister, Dovie Mae Dull; a special cousin, Clyde Gray, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Peters, Rev. Bruce Freeman, and Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont for their tender and loving care of Gene and the wonderful support they received during his stay there.
