Mr. Gene Allen Trippe, 63, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of James and Hattie Wright Trippe. He was a graduate of High Point University, a US Army veteran and worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools System. Gene was a member of Pfafftown Christian Church where he sang in the choir and was involved in the community garden. He enjoyed reading, collecting coins, walking at C. G. Hill Park, was a history buff and loved watching TCM movies. Gene found humor in life and loved to teach at every opportunity. He is preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Charles K. London, III and Makayla Lynn London. Survivors include his brother, Jim Trippe (Susi) of Winston-Salem; two children, James ""Bobby"" Trippe (Mary) of Winston Salem and Jennifer London (Charles) of King; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Amy, and Arik; his wife, Susan E. Smith; two stepdaughters, Amanda Davis (Edmund) of Winston-Salem and Hope Poster (Sam) of Temple, TX; a stepson Stephen Fulton (Roxana) of Granite Falls; and seven step-grandchildren, Lavante, Jacob, Terrence, Victoriana, Stephen, Jr., Malia, and Jeremiah.. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Pfafftown Christian Church with the Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Burial will be held at 3 pm Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Saddle Mt. Baptist Church, Ennice, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, May 12, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In Lieu of flowers donations should be directed to The Comprehensive Cancer Center, Wake Forest Baptist Health, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
