George W. Brendle

Mr. George Washington Brendle, 100, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his home. He was born February 22, 1916 in Elkin to Nannie Masten Brendle and John Cleveland Brendle. Mr. Brendle was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He retired from Winston Leaf Tobacco Company and was a charter member of the Piedmont Boat Club. Mr. Brendle was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia ""Needie"" Sapp Brendle and five siblings. Surviving are three children, Judy Ann Brendle Tesh and husband William of Florida, George W. Brendle, Jr. and wife Audrey and Tina Rogers and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and one brother, John C. Brendle, Jr. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Brad Stamey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to offer a very special thanks to ""Miss Mary"" for all the love and special care given to our dad. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice, 225 Davie St., Statesville, NC 28677.
