George Wallace Calcutt Jr.

Mr. George Wallace Calcutt, Jr. “Dubby”, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Winston-Salem on January 24, 1944, to the late George Wallace Calcutt, Sr. and Lois Sheets Jones. George served two years in the United States Army before marrying and becoming a father to three beautiful daughters.

Dubby’s passion in life was music. If you knew him, you heard him belt away tunes on karaoke nights by George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Conway Twitty. He loved watching westerns on Grit TV, yard work, and his pride and joy Mustang GT.

His legacy of love, kindness, and humor touched the lives of so many, and he will be profoundly missed.

Left to cherish his loving memory are his three daughters, Tonya Stratton (Scott), Amy Newby (Jimmy), and Jennifer Tucker (Shannon); five grandchildren, Stephanie Stratton (Greg), Tyler Petree, Taylor Petree (Allie); Erin Newby; and Logan Oringderff; three great grandchildren; Stella Schammel, River Petree, and Kohen Petree; a sister, Deborah Callahan (Bill); two nephews, David Maxey Jr. (Tonia) and Billy Callahan (Ali); and four great nephews, Jacob Maxcy, Zachary Maxcy, Gray Callahan, and Jared Callahan.

A private family service will be held at a later date. To honor Dubby, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
