Summerfield – George Edward Cowfer, 84, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital. He was born on November 8, 1941, in Osceola Mills, PA to the late Russell and Erma Thompson Cowfer. George proudly served his country in the US Army. He loved his old cars and enjoyed spending time restoring them. George loved music, especially classic country and gospel. He could play just about anything he put his hands on, loved the bass and most recently the steel guitar. George took delight in many things, but his love for the Lord took precedent over them all. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Alyssa Emmons; one grandson, Greyson Cowfer; two brothers, Russell Cowfer and Rick Cowfer; and one sister, Louise Vaughn.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Kathy Walburn Cowfer; three daughters, Susan Cowfer, Tammy Cowfer, and Lisa Cowfer; one son, Scott Cowfer; two grandsons, Peyton Cowfer and Stetson Cowfer; one great grandson, London Emmons; and many extended family.

The will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s honor to the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5424 Union Grove Rd, Oak Ridge, NC 27310. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is serving the Cowfer family.
