George Edward "Eddie" Derrah

KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. George Edward ""Eddie"" Derrah, 61, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Eddie was born on November 6, 1952 in Forsyth County to Clarence Edward and Katherine Eloise Morphis Derrah. Eddie was a 1971 graduate of East Forsyth High School and was a former Fire Chief for Kernersville Fire Department. He loved model trains and classic trucks. Eddie was a gentle, loving person. He was a wonderful husband and best friend to his wife, Sandy, of 29 years as well as a great dad to Tucker, his special feline buddy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence E. Derrah.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy Derrah, of the home; his mother, Eloise Derrah; his sister, Cathy McGee (husband, Danny); his father-in-law, Ronald Smith; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Jones (husband, Rodney) and Vickie Neal (husband, Ched) ; four nieces, Jennifer, Becky, Kristan, and Kim; two great-nephews; two great-nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Jonathan Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the funeral home.
