George Terrill “Terry” Whitlatch, 79, of Clemmons, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born on August 31, 1946 in Nashville, TN to George Isaac and Evvie Plummer Whitlatch.
Survivors include his children, Mary Foster and her husband, Mike, of Pfafftown; Katie Hamlin and her husband, Brent, of St. Augustine, Fla.; and George “Tay” of Charlotte; a brother, Jeff and his wife, Lynette, of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Julia Foster, Audrey Hamlin and Grant Hamlin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Allison.
Terry was a lifelong learner with an impeccable memory. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he pursued graduate studies in Latin at Indiana University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught high school Latin, first in Goldsboro, then in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. While in WSFCS, Terry moved into school administration as an assistant principal, then principal at Old Town and Cash Elementary schools. After retirement, he returned to the classroom to teach Latin in several schools in North and South Carolina.
In his retirement, Terry was an active member and served as a deacon of Clemmons Presbyterian Church where he enthusiastically served at Wednesday Night Suppers. After his wife’s death, Terry was a fixture in the social scene at Trinity Elms Independent Living. He will be remembered by many for his sense of humor and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 Friday, April 17, 2026 at Clemmons Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors at the church after the service.
The family would like to sincerely thank the compassionate medical professionals at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for treating patients and their families with the utmost dignity.
