Mr. George Waymoth Welborn, 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018. He was born December 10, 1925 in Yadkin County, NC to Betty Jane Pinnix Welborn and George Vander Welborn. Mr. Welborn was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 35 years of service. Mr. Welborn attended First Alliance Church in Winston-Salem, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby James Welborn and three brothers, Coy, Hugh and Zeno Welborn. Surviving are his stepson, Bob Gilbert (Vicki) of Naples, FL; two grandchildren, Adrian and Noel Gilbert; a niece, Debbie Hopper (Ben); a two nephews, Ed and Toby Welborn; a great nephew, Brad Hopper (Jennie) and their children, Aidan and Grace Hopper. Also surviving are his special friends, Sandy Callison (Mike) and Alene Ballance. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2108 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. A service will also be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel in Walkertown, NC. Memorials may be made to First Alliance Church of Winston-Salem. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Trellis Supportive Care and Trinity Elms.
