Gladys McManaway Poindexter

Gladys McManaway Poindexter, 87, of Winston Salem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She was born March 11, 1926 in Augusta County, Virginia to the late Howard Morgan and Gladys Maxwell McManaway. Gladys was a long time member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston Salem. She retired from Forsyth Technical Community College where she was a nursing instructor for over 20 years. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Lafayette Poindexter, brother Howard McManaway, sister Nancy Bruce, son Charles Howard Poindexter and son-in-law, Michael Patrick Sekelsky. Gladys is survived by her boyfriend Cliff Perkins, her daughter Laura Sekelsky of Advance, sons Edwin Poindexter and wife Susan of Greensboro, Alan Poindexter and his girlfriend Sue Bryant Burkhart of Pfafftown, and grandchildren Justin Poindexter of New York City, Erin Poindexter of Boston, MA, Michael Patrick Sekelsky II and Max Sekelsky of Advance. Gladys attended Mary Baldwin College, Duke University, and Winston Salem State University. She was quite active in the Centenary missionary program, participating in numerous missionary trips. She was an ardent Duke University basketball fan. Among her passions were traveling, nature, and gardening. Above all, Gladys was steadfastly devoted to her family and God. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Centenary United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests immediately following the service at the church.
